About the First Officer / Chief Mate
The first officer onboard a yacht is required to have in depth knowledge of all bridge, navigation and deck procedures as well as the ability to teach the deck crew new repair and maintenance skills. This person will also have a thorough understanding of safety procedures as well as managerial skills, strong leadership of and communication with the crew. The first officer is able to support the captain in every aspect of yacht management. This role necessitates at least five years of experience including positions as the first officer or the captain of a smaller vessel and a minimum license of OOW unlimited.
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting captain with administrative and safety duties

Required Skills
- Ability to stand in for captain in his absence
- Ability to delegate, effective communicator, organized, diplomatic and versatile
- Boat handling, watch keeping and navigational skills
- Excellent ISM and ISPS knowledge and practices
- Extensive maintenance knowledge and skills; cleaning, rust/corrosion, painting, varnishing, rope splicing, fiberglass, carpentry, outboard motors and maintenance product knowledge
- Basic engineering knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of all water sports
- Computer skills
